Pantone Color of the Year 2020: Classic Blue
It’s that time again. The Pantone Color Institute has announced the colour of the year 2020, which connects us with the peaceful tranquillity of the night sky.
In recent years, Pantone’s choice fell on more vivid and unusual colours. In 2019, everything revolved around the life-affirming hue Living Coral. In 2018, the focus was on the dramatic Ultra Violet. For 2020, Pantone has named a classic the trend colour of the year: a deep, bright blue named Classic Blue. PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue, to be exact.
Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director PANTONE Color Institute
To present the mood of the colour, Pantone published a short video. Accompanied by a calming soundtrack, the video shows a picture of the sky at dusk, the silhouettes of two people and a hinted mountain range in the background. Everything coloured in shades of Classic Blue.
Timeless and elegant, Classic Blue conveys “calm, confidence, and connection” and highlights, according to Pantone, “our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.” Soothing, reliable shades as a counterweight to today’s turbulent times. Experience shows that Classic Blue will influence many trends and developments in design, fashion, film and photography as well as other areas in the coming months. We are excited about what’s to come.
